1.

when you get the urge
to touch a plant as you
walk by it,
        know that it
has beckoned you
with a handshake.

2.

art

I am laying in the grass
in a meadow and thinking fervently about
art, about what is art and isn’t art,

from above me, a blade of grass
tips and brushes upward on my lip
as the wind picks up, ushering a huge
“shhhhhh”

3.

my head

so far up my ass it’s coming out of my neck

4.

somewhere the shortest totem pole exists

a gnome

5.

Stu

I am not a conservative.
But if it really made my parents
happy, which it would, I
would maybe spend more time
being mad about taxes and
also at the same time hating
the homeless.

I am not a neo-Leninist.
But if it made my friend Liam
happy, which it would, I
would maybe write about how exactly
to save the world and
also at the same time be very
pedantic and roundabout.

I am however a sardine filled with
honey smoked ham and brie cheese.
And let me tell you, my cat
is a huge fan of that.

Los Angeles

        The clouds are holding meetings
in New Jersey, about things like paintings and music.
They drink their furry cocktails and hold their bellies laughing and
there’s a tremolo like the pulsing of a heart.

                                            The rain is on layover
                                        in Vancouver, checking its watch
constantly, shaking its leg like a cold dog, feeling
the heat of its insides bubble up and the rain hits the ground like
the patter of grandma’s piantop metronome.

                Here, there are no clouds
                or rain, nothing to distinguish
                the days, and still the
                ground fucking shakes
                like a spasmodic baby
                shitting in its diaper
